It has been an eventful week, and the upcoming Super Bowl and the events of Media Day on Tuesday dominating media attention, and culminating with Super Bowl 49 on Sunday. There's one more major event that will take place prior to kickoff it's The Madden NFL 24 Honors show on the night of Saturday, where the annual awards will be presented to the top players of the league. It's the Madden NFL 24 Honors show is also when it is the time for the announcement of the Pro Football Hall of Fame Class of 2015 will be announced.

The field of finalists for this year's contest was narrowed to 15 at the beginning of January, down from an list of 26 names from the November of 2014. On the list are St. Louis Rams quarterback Kurt Warner, former Denver Broncos running back Terrell Davis and defensive lineman John Lynch, and coaches Don Coryell, Tony Dungy and Jimmy Johnson.

It's a solid pool like always, and has already had several big names removed from it. The players who didn't get into the pool in their very first year in eligibility are Isaac Bruce, Torry Holt and Edgerrin James.

The complete list of finalists include Warner, Davis, Lynch, Orlando Pace, Junior Seau, Morten Andersen, Jerome Bettis, Tim Brown, Kevin Greene, Charles Haley, Marvin Harrison, Will Shields, coaches Coryell, Duny and Johnson, and co-conspirators Bill Polian and Ron Wolf. Mick Tingelhoff is the lone senior finalist.

Madden NFL 24 Honors Looking ahead to the most important players for big awards

Pace, Warner and Seau are the standouts in the player finalists. Warner led the Rams to winning a Super Bowl win, and then was able to lead to the Arizona Cardinals to another in the loss. Pace safeguarded Warner's blind side while in St. Louis, and Seau was a part of eight All-Pro selections. He also was the 1992 defense player of the year.

The Hall of Fame announcement will take place in the Madden NFL 24 Honors event which starts in the 9th hour of 9 p.m. ET during the weekend. It will be broadcast via NBC at Phoenix Symphony Hall in Phoenix, Ariz.

Austin Seferian Jenkins's final season with Washington was bookended by setbacks. One of the most recent was an injury on his foot during his medical exam during the Madden NFL 24 Combine in Indianapolis that kept the player from exercising. More serious was an arrest for DUI in the month of March 2013 for which he pleaded guilty and served a day in prison (the other 363 days of the sentence were suspended).

In between, Seferian-Jenkins reasserted himself to be one of the best tight ends in the United States. Even though his numbers were down off a prolific sophomore season, Seferian Jenkins took off the John Mackey Award as the best tight end in college football and is likely to be among the first players at his position to hear his name called at the Madden NFL 24 Draft in May.

Meanwhile, he's working on his rehabilitation and preparing for the next level. He spoke to Madden 24 and explained the lessons he's learnt since his arrest, and also how the way he assesses himself as a player.

What are you doing to get ready for the draft now?

In truth, I'm just trying to rehab my foot. I'm doing aerobics, then all upper body, performing some lower lifting like leg press, and the like. Watching film. That's about it really. and taking trips.

How is your recovery going? When do you think you'll be able to return to 100 percent?

I'm pretty close to that. April 25-26 I'll return for a brief examination for medical clearance, however, I'm feeling pretty good in the moment. I'm pretty close to 100 percent. However, I'm still not there.

What sort of thing is it that you are doing to market you to Madden NFL 24 teams right now? What's your interaction with teams?

It's true that I'm not able to workout. I'm a professional athlete and love to work out, and I do it for teams, but I'm unable to due to my current rehabilitation. That's why I go out and tell the teams, when I'm on tour with teams , and speaking to them, I'll tell them what I'm like what I'm about, who I am who I am, and how I'm going to bring my best to the football field each day. This is all I have to do, and that's exactly what I'm doing right now to show them.

When you're on the road what do you prefer to present yourself? What can you do in order to differentiate yourself from the well-known the tight-end group?

No matter where I go, I'm bound be able to see a very accomplished, driven and driven person who's going to get every inch of his potential out

I don't really think about such things. I only think about my friends getting to know me as what I am as a person. I'm not going to attempt to make myself appear or present an image that isn't mine. It's true that I am me I'm a fun casual guy who loves to put in the hours, and who's extremely driven and focused.

Also, I don't want to appear to be someone I am not. I'm just who I am and I believe it makes it easier for the team members to know me. It also creates my job easier for myself.

Are you likely to be able to perform any physical work for teams before the draft?

The primary thing is just getting medically cleared, which is the number. 1 priority. Once I get medically clear I'll be evaluated by my agent, and we'll come up with a solution.

What are the teams you have talked to that have been talking to about you most?

This is a bit of the smoke and mirrors. You never really know who is really interested in you because some people hold their cards close to their chests and other aren't. There are a number of teams that I've spoken with however that's a query I'm not sure how to answer, because there is no way to tell until draft day.

There are any sports teams you're particular about, whether it's you were a child or a specific system that you like?

In all honesty, I want to play at the highest level in football. This is the most important aspect for me. I don't care about where you go, as wherever I go they're going to be getting a highly skilled driven, motivated man who's going to maximize every bit of his potential and max all the potential I have within my body out. Wherever I'm lucky enough to be will get a guy with maxed out, complete potential each every year.

Are there any sportsmen you could model yourself after?

I'd guess Jimmy Graham and Rob Gronkowski. A little of Kellen Winslow. Senior, not junior.

I believe I'm a great route runner. It's time to improve my consistency of being the top route runner but I am able to do it with my route running as well as my ability to be open and my ability to make the catch that is contested as well as my blocking. I'm one of the best blocking tight ends that you can find in draft.

I believe I'm the best overall, you know, I'm an all-round tight end like Rob Gronkowski, who can block, catch and create plays; like Jimmy Graham, I can get out and catch slants anyplace on the field. Like Kellen Winslow Jr. and was an effective playmaker. When your ball falls into your grasp, I find the end zone.

If you are evaluating yourself right now, is there anything you think you have to improve?

I am convinced that I need to improve in all areas. Improve my route running abilities, I'm looking to increase my consistency at the pad level in blocking and also the technique. Yes, I need to improve on everything in order to be where I'd like to be one day.

Recalling the combine and the final decision, was it a bit difficult to know in the last second that you wouldn't be able to complete the work?

You work all day long for two to three months and are ready to demonstrate to everyone how efficient you're going, suddenly, they tell you you shouldn't. It was a bit of a snub, but I know doctors were watching out for me, and I'm grateful for that. As I reflect back on it I'm thankful that I didn't go for a run as you never know what might be the result of guys who don't take care themselves.

What was your initial reaction when you heard the news?

My immediate reaction was 'you should allow me to run since I've practiced on it and I've been playing on it for a long time, so it's not breaking today.'

What was it when you spoke to teams in Indianapolis?

It was a good time, it was a fascinating period of time. You only get 15 minutes in a group before a blowhorn goes off, and it was an exciting experience. This is how it goes, and it's a wonderful experience. It was a pleasure to be fortunate enough to be invited to the colloquium. I was thankful for that. It was a memorable experience. I will remember it for the rest of my life.

It's possible that one of the subjects discussed in Interviews was about your arrest on March. Was this subject discussed?

It was of course. It was true that I was detained. Everyone brought it up and inquired about it, and I gave them the exact same answer.

I didn't hide from it, I took on the burden of it

It's just what it is. It was a reality. I learned lots from it and it was one of the more positive impact things have had throughout my life, even though it felt negative in the moment when it took place.

What turned out to be something positive for you?

You realize that you only got one chance, one opportunity and I was fortunate enough to have a second chance at the University of Washington. You get to be a positive influence. I attempt to educate kids and high schoolers, I spoke with a couple high schools on the consequences of driving drunk, and how it impacts people and how it can harm yourself, others, family.

The great thing is that this happened before I even reached Madden NFL 24. I accepted responsibility for it. I didn't run away from it, I took responsibility for it, and then I moved on.

You've mentioned being a mentor to younger kids. Has there been anyone that has been a mentor to you?

Really? No. I kind of just pay attention to the coaches I had, Steve Sarkisian and Doug Nussmeier who is now the offensive coordinator at Michigan, and when they were my coaches, I kind of listened to themand how they did things. So I just follow in the footsteps of those coaches.

Have you reached out to anyone?

Really not. I've talked to Mark Bruener who played for the University of Washington, then Houston and the Pittsburgh Steelers. I've talked to him a number of times. And I've talked to a many other men who went through the program which is called for example, the University of Washington -- as tight ends.

What have they told you?

I'd like to get the helpful hints of the next level, as well as some rules and guidelines. They are supportive, giving me assistance. If I have any issues or have someone I can discuss something with I'm sure to call them with a message. They are always on the way of communicating with me and I greatly appreciate the communication from them.

Personally, do you feel ready to end your college experience and get a fresh start?

Oh yeah, for sure. I'm done. I'm done with college.

You know, it was great. It was a great time at University of Washington. Washington was an incredible great place to be at -- outstanding academics, amazing coaches, great teammates, friends, all of that -But I felt well-prepared, I just felt mature enough. A little more mature in my life.

I felt really ready to face all the experiences I was through during the years there. I felt mentally, physically and emotionally prepared to move on to the next level and the next chapter of my life.

What do you think you'll remember the most regarding Seattle and the school?

I'm sure I'll miss my teammates, and that's all there is to it. It's just me and my teammates.

Former Madden NFL 24 safety Darren Sharper was detained with police from Los Angeles County Sheriff's department on felony charges and issued a bond of $200,000 on the official website for the department.
