How to set up Group membership questions

Group admins can add questions that members answer before a join request is sent.

Group admins can create membership questions to help moderators review people who want to join.

Where to manage membership questions

1. Open the Group you manage.
2. Open the Admin or moderation area.
3. Find “Membership Questions.”
4. Add the question you want new members to answer.

Creating a question

Enter a short question such as:
• Why would you like to join this Group?
• How did you hear about this community?
• Do you agree to follow the Group’s posting guidelines?

You can choose whether an answer is required.

Required questions

When “Require an answer” is enabled, a person cannot submit their join request until that question has an answer.

Optional questions

If a question is optional, the person can leave it blank and still submit the request.

Removing a question

In the Membership Questions panel, select the delete button beside a question to remove it.

Removing a question does not automatically approve or reject any existing join request.

How moderators review answers

1. Open the Group’s Admin area.
2. Open Join Requests.
3. Review the requester’s profile and submitted answers.
4. Select Approve or Reject.

Approvals are processed together so the request status and Group membership stay in sync.

Who can manage membership questions?

Membership-question configuration is limited to Group admins. Moderators can review submitted answers and handle requests according to their Group permissions.

Recommended practices

• Keep questions short and relevant to the Group.
• Avoid requesting passwords, payment-card information, government login credentials, or other sensitive secrets.
• Use required questions only when the answer is genuinely needed for moderation.
• Keep the number of questions reasonable so joining does not become unnecessarily difficult.
