How Messenger search works

Search direct and group conversations within the active Messenger inbox view.

The Messenger inbox search narrows the conversations already available in your inbox.

For direct conversations, the current search checks participant display names. For group conversations, it can also match the group title.

Search works together with the active inbox filter. For example, searching while Archived is selected searches within archived conversations rather than automatically returning every chat.
